Ida Lou Wilson Griggs, 89, of Johnson City, TN and formerly of Athens, went to be with the Lord, Monday, October 22, 2018. She was born November 18, 1928. She was a strong, kind, sweet spirited woman who was loved by her family.
She was a native of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late David R. and Ora Belle Thompson Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marcus Griggs, a daughter Lisa Barton, and all her siblings: Millie Turner, Mattie Shelton, Geneva Hagan, Wanda Queen Mendenhall and Hugh Oscar Wilson all of Athens, and Virginia Leach of Charleston.
She was a member of East Athens Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Terry Maughon of Johnson City; son-in-law Keith Barton of Athens; granddaughters, Kara Maughon Page of Johnson City and Danielle Maughon of Asheville, NC; grandsons, Marc Barton of Athens and Michael Maughon of Johnson City.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, November 10, 2018 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Terry Maughon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
